ONLY ONE MORE WEEK UNTIL DAYLIGHT SAVINGS!!!

Sleep an extra hour now, recoup your loss for next weekend.

This image is brought to you by the people with fantasy lives powerful enough to overtake their digestive systems. Wish I belonged to that club.

This week has been good. Spring has behaved in typical groundhoggish fashion, poking its 80 degree head outside one day, scuttling back in for a breezy 58 degrees the next. (I know, I can hear the groans all the way from New England; I'm sorry to be such a THIN BLOODED Californian. But one must take pride in something.)

Meantime, I am contemplating my yearly sally forth unaccompanied by my kid. Andy has offered to send me somewhere for a few days, and I am considering my options. (Wow, am I spoiled. Thank you, Lord.)

Pinko Mommie

OOoh! Have you seen the new Pink Panther DVD cartoon collection? So much fun! I put this in the DVD player expecting to be mildly amused...surely the stuff that made me laugh from the gut in high school wouldn't be nearly as effective now? Surely I am more jaded and calm than that?

Nope.

I love them! The cartoons are wry and silly and still bust-a-gut funny. There are even two cartoons where the fuschia feline speaks, but I don't really like his voice. It is so not what I imagined it. He's funnier without it.

Still enjoyed it immensely. The collection is a great excuse to throw a party: pink champagne and trays of pink Hostess Snowballs everywhere. (Wow, the sugar headache alone would kill you.) A pink panther pinata would, upon breaking open, burst forth with pink confetti and rolls of pink "Smarties" candies. What else? Pink Jello shots?

Required attire would be obvious.

Oooo. Inspiring. But would anyone attend?

From the floor...

...of the office. Sorry, bored, had to think of something to post. So today you get to look at my mildly bemused face.

I began this blog with an excitement and anticipation of putting all my writing in one place; a neat and tidy thought. Then I realized that half of what I write is never meant to be seen by even the tiny percentage of people who perchance to read this blog, so that's why I don't post as often as I'd expected I would.

Zorro in my kitchen

Zorro stopped by for coffee today.

This was brought about by my daughter, who even though she is under two can recognize the instrumental soundtrack to the movie "The Legend of Zorro." As in, cue the opening orchestral piece; see Emily look up quickly, point her finger toward the Hello Kitty cd player, and proclaim in a high but very clear voice, "Zorro!" Which is closely followed by, "Zorro in the black dress!" and "Go see Zorro?"

Which is about as close as we'll ever get to having Zorro in our kitchen. Still, his presence is deeply felt.

He is rather popular in our house lately. We had some friends over, and agreed to watch the Zorro sequal DVD. Since we both have little girls under two years old, we kept them in the room with us to play with toys while we watched the movie.

It was the middle of the afternoon. It was daylight out. It's not like we blacked out the room and obscured their view of toys and each other and the door-sized window views of outside. It's not as if we held their little faces parallel with the tv screen. It's a fairly big room with enough space to play undistracted.

But that television is hypnotic, isn't it? So Emmy now considers herself on visitor's terms with the man behind the mask.

Hence, Zorro is still looming large in our collective imaginations. Especially during breakfast, when we turn on the cd player.

I guess I can't blame Emmy--what’s not to like? There’s the tall black horse, the sweeping cape, the mysterious black eyes behind a mysterious black mask. And if you've seen the movie, you even get to see a hero who can admit to more than a few mistakes. Always better when those heroes are still shown as human.

There’s also the fencing thing. I'd like to devote some of this space to bragging on how my husband was an excellent fencing athlete, but I never got to witness this marvelous feat. I met him after he stopped pressing a blade of wobbly steel against more than a few advancing abdomens. Apparently he was so good that he bested his fencing coach during a lesson. Allow me to lament the fact that I never witnessed my husband’s close proximity to Zorro-like swashbuckling. Sigh…Perhaps someday.

I also never got to see Andy beat an ex-Navy Seal in an impromptu wrestling match in Italy, either. (I was sleeping, but reports from friends were that said Navy Seal was pinned fairly quickly. Doesn't that just beat all?) I did, however, see him flip my Dad into the pool once.

Not the same.

In the meantime, Zorro continues to show up for breakfast. Perhaps huevos rancheros should be on the menu?

Jem fashion makeup has come full circle!

So this week Sephora.com is touting the new look for spring: purple eye makeup is everywhere. If you are young and hip, you are wearing it.

May I just point out that this look was adopted by Jem of Jem and the Holograms back in the eighties? Most fashion comes full circle, I know, and we are in the midst of an eighties revival, but I just had to point out how Jem still remains Outrageous.

I wish I could give credit to where I acquired these pics but I copied them so long ago I'm sad to say I do not remember. My apologies.

See? Jem looks great for 40. ; ) Actually, this year is the 20th anniversary from when she first went on the air in 1986. So technically, the show is 20 years old...but the character was probably in her early twenties when the show started. So yeah, she'd be hitting 40 about now. But considering that Jem is nothing but a hologram mask over Jerrica Benton's person, Jem probably wouldn't show her age one bit. She doesn't even need any updating.

Unless Synergy felt some age-appropriate tweaking was necessary...

Only the Beginning

So I don't really know where to start...this picture seemed seasonal enough. My niece Megan took this photo (that's supposed to be a pink monkey up there)...not bad for a six-year-old, hmmm? Actually she's seven now, and would not hesitate to remind me of that fact; however I thought it spoke even more of her photogenic eye that she took this picture over a year ago, so credits go to the age of six.

So yes, the title of this entry is a Jem and the Holograms song; I am a die-hard fan.
